I remember when my roommate Jennifer first told me about Dave Barnes. Who was this guy? I’d never heard of him, but she was so excited about sharing some of his videos with me. She told me how hysterically funny he was, and after I watched some of his Christmas Extravaganza videos, I couldn’t agree more! AND THEN I found out that he could sing. Like really sing. And that he actually wrote songs! One of my FAVORITE songs – God Gave Me You – was written by this incredibly talented artist. So, when Jennifer found out that he was coming to DC, we really had no option but get tickets! And I’m so glad we did! Holy cow!! It was awesome! We stood in the front row at the Rock and Roll Hotel, (That’s misleading. It’s not a hotel; it’s a bar. We walked up and the bouncer just looked at us. And he was like, “IDs? You should know by now when you come to bars that you have to have your IDs out..” And I’m thinking, “I thought this was a hotel!” Ahem. Moving on.
To be honest, I didn’t know a ton of the songs but J-dub was singing along like a champ, so I felt like I could be one of the cool kids. The evening was saturated with laughs and smiles and of course AWESOME music. Don’t forget to check out his website, some super funny youtube videos, and also check out what he’s doing to make a difference; I’ll talk about it more later in the post, so let’s get to it!
Andrew Ripp opened for Dave and seriously, after the first song I was ready to go upstairs to buy that CD! Man he can sing! Go listen to him. Now. Ok, finish my post first. Then go listen
We had some time to spare in between acts, so we moved to a better spot (I’m 4’10″, who really cares if I’m standing in front of them right? …Hopefully not that big man we asked to scootch over some…)

So, here is the important part. Like I said at the beginning, Dave Barnes is doing something to make a big difference. He’s partnering with the Mocha Club, which is an organization that is helping to dig wells in communities in Africa. These are areas that don’t have water for thousands of people, and the premise is that for the cost of two mochas ($7/month), you can help provide water for these communities! Make sure to check out their website and look into this awesome cause! (And don’t worry, Dave assured us we didn’t have to give up our mochas in the process. Thank you Dave!)
