Christmas

Christmas is such a great time of year.  I love it! Sometimes it takes me a while for it to really “feel” like Christmas, but I still love the whole season.  This Christmas I got to spend some time with some extended family and it was great to hang out and see their faces!

My mom made her famous chicken pot pie with a Christmas tree in the middle!

I had nothing to do with the tree this year! I didn’t even help pick it out! Which was sad, but my mom did a great job decorating!

He was a little surprised at what we got him:-)

We did something that we haven’t done before but I thought it was the neatest idea! My aunt hosted Christmas day and asked everyone to bring a picture from a previous Christmas. This is totally up my alley. We didn’t know what it was for, but as I went to bed on Christmas Eve I went through about 3 boxes full of our family photos, then continued the next day before we left for my aunt’s house. It was pretty cool to see years of Christmas in pictures and I remembered why it is that I love photography. Spread on the table were memories, many of which didn’t even include me. But I loved the pictures; seeing my mom as a 16 year old or my grandma and grandpa reminded me of the family that I’m a part of. Reminded me of one of the only constants in my life. My family, which existed before me and will go on after I’m gone. I’m a part of it – a part of my family, a part of memories.  We’re a part of each other; our lives are twisted together thanks to grace of God. I’m so thankful for this group of people to go through life with, to lean on and learn from.  And I’m grateful for the pictures that remind me of the blessing of family.
